As the days grows shorter and The Winter Solstice approaches our days become sweeter.
Feeding Mirage at sunrise, then playtime and grooming, a walk and a 'long Winter's nap', seem to define our days.
Last night I returned to my challenging yoga class. (Anyway I once thought of it as such, it is a level two three.) For the past two months I have been in a series of classes with the Soul Collage group exploring Grace. We read Invisible Acts of Power, Personal choices That Create Miracles by Caroline Myss. Now the series has ended and I carry all the wisdom and beauty back into my yoga practice.
Last night after our vigorous walk and the blessing of a majestic orange sunset, Mirage headed to her bed by the fireplace. Sleeping soundly, she did not respond to my urging, "Mirage, wake up! It's time to go to yoga!" I thought all right, here is an opportunity to use my white cane. The cane is a telescopic one I use when traveling, mostly I whip it out for early boarding in airline terminals.
Kissing Mirage good bye, I extended it to full length and closed the door softly behind me. The ride was quick and the driver dropped me at the curb. Sure! I welcome a chance to practice some cane techniques. I positioned the cane in a pencil grip and held it near my navel. I swept it right to left and covered the space slightly wider than my shoulders. Immediately I encountered a soft fluttery ground cover. Autumn leaves! With the blunt cane tip it was impossible to cut through their depth to find a recognizable sidewalk surface. Luckily the distance to the door was about fifty feet and once I located the curb I was fine, mostly amused by the heavy jumbled shag carpet of leaves as I waded towards the door. I love how the cane swings freely at the top of the stair landing after clipping each stair step in rhythm.
The class was Lovely!
Then the bus returned. A student alerted me that the driver had again parked at the curb. Perfect! I descended the stair, unsure of what the technique was now. Something to relearn... The driver was near the door and too close to break into my sweeping cane action. I waited for his lead and followed. As we were enveloped by the shadowy night, he offered his arm. I graciously accepted it. It's good to be flexible on and off the mat!
The ride home was quick too. Mirage was at the door to greet me. We played and I was so thankful for the evening in it's entirety.
