About Me

My Photo
My name is Suzy. My first guide dog was Mirage, she retired to Mari in February 2013. Pilgrim is my second guide dog. We are graduates of Guide Dogs for the Blind.I have a progressive degenerative genetic eye condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa and I see as if through a keyhole. I am thankful for my remaining eyesight. I appreciate the companionship and mobility Mirage and Pilgrim bring to my life.

Her World

“Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer.”
― Rainer Maria Rilke

Mirage and I retreat atop the king sized bed. Our furniture has been removed to the garage. Her riveting eyes upon mine. "I implore you! What next!" I look up through the steam rising from my whiskey lemon and honey toddy.  I cough and press a tissue to my dripping nose. "Every little thing is going to be all right!" I smooth her black head and smile reassuringly.

This week the world as she has known it, is upside down. On Monday an emergency room visit eliminates her much anticipated daily walk. On Tuesday our landscaper drops yards of new soil on her potty area, so a new better draining lawn can grow. A leash is introduced to keep her from wandering atop the pile the mud. Wednesday 'her' car goes into the shop for a 100,000 mile service appointment and Dan returns with a large white sedan. Suddenly she is relegated to a tiny space, between my knees. And Yesterday the carpet cleaning team came and thoroughly shampooed the carpets, just in time for Easter! She are I are eye to eye. She regards me curiously.  Owing to the week of rain and high humidity the carpets are still wet! How long came we remain marooned here?
She may be thinking,
"Really? Goodness gracious!"
"What will Friday bring?"
No worries Dear Mirage, no worries, my sweet Love.
